Turn Steering, try start once again

Parked 2008 S40 5 days ago, no problems. Today, when my son was leaving for school, steering cycle is not locked, inserted key, turned to position 3 and zero. Got the message "Turn Steering, attempt showtime again." Tried that and zilch. Noticed the following: When the cardinal is turned to ane and 2, all nuance calorie-free and headlights come on. At three, the headlights become off, the arm residue buttons get off and but Check ENGINE stays on. One time the cardinal is released, all indicators and headlights come dorsum on. OBD shows no codes. There is a "turn-signal" sound in the lower steering cavalcade area and a clicking under the hood. I reviewed all related posts I could find hither and most related to a locked steering wheel. Mine is not locked. Put my Schumacher battery tester/charger on it and initially read xi.vii volts. Charged information technology for one 60 minutes and information technology reads 13.5. Still no first. Any ideas will be more than than greatly appreciated.

After the battery charge and with good battery voltage try a bombardment reset. Disconnect the ground cablevision and touch it to the pos post or terminal for 5 seconds and and then reconnect. Have the ignition off and fundamental out for five minutes before you lot do this.
If this works then y'all may accept only had a low voltage problem taking a module offline. That car doesn't really have the electric column lock pin due to constabulary changes eliminating the requirement but information technology has the module to agree its place in the network construction. The message tin can occur on others when the lock is physically blocked but on your car it is module error. Engine beginning is blocked if the system thinks yous can't plow wheel, truthful or not.

Merely yesterday my 2008 S40 did the exact same thing. You described information technology to a "T". All the noises and clicking. I tried the disconnecting negative and touching the positive for 5seconds and goose egg happened. I also tried my other key. I am not hearing my ignition "accept" or "lockin". When I insert the key. You know the distint sound of the key locking in. Any more aid or suggestions would exist great.

Drove it to work with no warnings or problems and 8 hrs later.... Zero.

I would attempt to turn the wheel and remove the cardinal until the steering wheel locks, and then insert the key to unlock the wheel again. On the older cars when we had issues like this, locking and unlocking the doors with a key iii times often cleared the immobilizer. I don't have a clue if that's information technology or not, merely information technology'south worth a try too.
